HSBC has brought the topic of race and the broader diversity and inclusion agenda to the top table.
To address this, CEO of HSBC UK called for an Inclusion Advisory Board to be established, consisting of ExCo and senior leaders and reflecting the make-up of the business, to maintain focus on driving action and to monitor and track progress; this has further evolved. A “Driving Inclusion” series for leaders was created to further embed inclusive culture, in addition an Inclusive Leadership objective is included in the performance scorecards of HSBC UK people managers.
A BAME working group was also established, as well as a reverse mentoring programme led by the firm’s Embrace Network and an inclusive Hiring Essentials course has been made available to hiring managers as part of their People Management Essentials.
- A number of BAME employees have participated in BAME and non-BAME external talent development programmes
- Several internal nominations were received to be submitted to the Empower FT List, leading to 4 BAME individuals being included in the final list
- A communications plan has been established to raise visibility of actions, leaders, people stories and lived experiences
